SUPPORTIVE SERVICES FOR AN INDEPENDENT LIFE

Episcopal Place is a unique partnership between the Episcopal Foundation and HUD.  Complimentary supportive services are provided for residents, and are funded by the Episcopal Foundation.  The Foundation is funded by grants, individual donations, and our annual fundraiser, the Gumbo Gala.  Services are listed below.

Free transportation for residents is available 5 days a week.  These services are made possible through the partnership with Collat Jewish Family Services.

Pastoral Care is provided by the EP Chaplain and includes an Episcopal Eucharist each Wednesday, Sunday worship services led by local ministers, memorial services, hospital visits, and grief counseling.  Special services are held for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, All Soul's Day, and the Blessing of the Animals.

Complimentary housekeeping is available for frail and sick residents.  Housekeepers typically visit once a month to provide housekeeping and can also help with laundry.  Residents must complete a form and meet with the Service Coordinator to determine if they qualify.

A Social Worker is on site to provide Supportive Services Coordination including: new resident orientation, financial management, home management, lease requirements and compliance, Episcopal Place policies and procedures, insurance benefits, crisis intervention, advocacy, health screenings, and education for residents, families, and staff.

Noonday meals are delivered to Episcopal Place Monday through Friday.  Participating residents pay $6.00 per meal.

Residents who qualify may also visit our food pantry for non-perishable goods and personal care products.

Residents are allowed to have one pet.  The majority of dogs & cats who live at Episcopal Place are rescue animals.  A pet assistance program is provided by the Remy Fund of the Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham.  The pet assistance program helps pay for vet bills, prescriptions, food, and emergency boarding.  Pets mean the world to many of our residents!

Episcopal Place is an active community. Residents enjoy our 24/7 exercise lounge, as well as time outside in our courtyard and neighboring park.

Residents also enjoy puzzles, arts & crafts, bingo, and card games.  Additionally, fitness classes and healthy cooking classes are offered, as well as transportation to the Lakeshore Foundation.

Services for persons with disabilities are available at Episcopal Place and include:  apartments equipped especially for mobility and hearing impaired residents, accessible parking, telephonic device for the deaf available, interpreters for events and worship services available upon request, and accessible van for transportation to medical appointments, grocery shopping, and special events.

Financial assistance from our ECares Program may be available for residents who need help with bills, medical expenses, co-pays, etc.  Residents requesting financial assistance must complete and submit a form and meet with the Social Worker.

Our onsite salon is open two days per week for women and men.  Residents can receive haircuts, styling, manicures, and pedicures, for significantly reduced rates.

Culturally enriching activities & events are planned several times each month and include theatre performances, concerts, educational seminars, weekend camps, film, and presentations from local nonprofit organizations, as well as a monthly birthday party for residents.
