Gumbo Gala is the annual fundraiser for Episcopal Place.  Each Spring 30-35 cook teams battle it out, to determine who has the best gumbo in Birmingham.  This friendly competition draws crowds upwards of 2,500, who arrive hungry and ready to sample gumbo.  Guests will also enjoy live music by Margeaux and the Cats Meow and plenty of craft beer from Cahaba Brewing Company.

Gumbo Gala was born from a gesture to welcome new residents at Episcopal Place.  Shortly after Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans (in 2005), Episcopal Place gained several new residents who had lost their homes from the storm.  In an effort to welcome them, the Episcopal Place staff threw a gumbo party in their honor.  It quickly became an annual tradition and grew into Gumbo Gala.  Since then, Gumbo Gala has served as the annual fundraiser for Episcopal Place.  It is one of the largest gumbo competitions in the South as well as the largest Episcopal event in Alabama.
